太極拳八法秘訣
掤勁義何解。如水負行舟。先實丹田氣。次要頂頭懸。
全體彈簧力。開合一定間。任有千斤重。飄浮亦不難。
捋勁義何解。順其來時力。輕靈不丟頂。引導使之前。
力盡自然空。丟擊任自然。五弓自維持。莫被他人乘。
按勁義何解。運用似水行。柔中寓剛強。急流勢難當。
遇高則澎滿。逢窪向下潛。波浪有起伏。有孔無不入。
採勁義何解。如權之引衡。任爾力巨細。權後知輕重。
轉移只四兩。千斤方可平。若問理何在。槓桿之作用。
挒勁義何解。旋轉若飛輪。投物於其上。脫然擲丈尋。
君不見漩渦。卷浪若螺紋。落葉墮其上。倏爾便沈淪。
肘勁義何解。方法有五行。陰陽分上下。虛實須辨清。
連環勢莫擋。開花捶更凶。六勁融通後。運用始無窮。
靠勁義何解。其法分肩背。斜飛勢用肩。肩中還有背。
一旦得機勢。轟然如搗碓。仔細維重心。失中徒無功。

The Secret Song of the Eight Methods
What is the meaning of Peng? Like water carries a boat. First fill the DanTian with Qi. Then hold the head as if suspended from above. The whole body acts as a spring. Opening and closing should be limited in a certain range. Even if the opponents use a thousand pounds of force, you can float them without difficulty.
What is the meaning of Lu? Following the opponents' force. Being nimble, without losing contact, and do not resist. Lead the opponents, making them come forward. The force will annihilate naturally. To throw or to attack the opponents will be self-willed. Maintain your five bows, which can not be broken by the opponents.
What is the meaning of Chi? There are two ways: The direct and simple way is to go to attach the opponent and take action in one movement. The indirect way is to use the counterforce as a ball bouncing off a wall, or a coin thrown on a drumhead, bouncing off with a ringing sound.
What is the meaning of An? It is like the flowing water. The solid is concealed in the softness. The flow is swift, and difficult to resist. It swells, when it meets up with a high place. It dives, when it meets a concave area,. The waves rise and fall, infiltrating any hole they reached.
What is the meaning of Cai? It is like the weight attached to the beam of a steelyard. No matter how heavy or light the force is, you will know after you measure it. By manipulating four ounces, one thousand pounds can also be balanced. If you ask what the principle is, the answer is the function of the lever.
What is the meaning of Lie? It revolves like a spinning disc. If something is thrown onto the spinning disc, it will immediately be cast more than ten feet away. You can not see the whirlpool. The rolling waves like the spiral. If a falling leaf drops on it, it will be sunk in suddenly.
What is the meaning of Zhou? Within this method are the Five Elements. Yin and yang should be separate into above and below parts. Full and empty have to be distinguished clearly. The opponent can not resist the interlinked movements. In the case of a fistfight it becomes even fiercer. After you have proficient in the six jin (power) mentioned above, you can manipulate the Zhou freely.
What is the meaning of Kao? You can use shoulders or back. The movement "Diagonal Flying" (xiefeishi) uses the shoulder. Yet, the back is hided in the shoulders. Once you gain the opportunity and the strategic advantage, you can smash like pounding a pestle. Be prudent to keep your center. If you lose it, the effort was in vain.
